Following heavy rains across Queensland, with Julia Creek recording over double its annual average rainfall since Christmas (over 1000mm recorded, average 450mm ),the iconic Julia Creek Dirt n Dust Festival has just announced it’s moving the 30-year celebration to 29–30 May 2026, promising an even bigger outback party once the ground dries and the dust rises.
Festival organisers say the decision was not made lightly, but ensuring a safe, fun and unforgettable experience for festivalgoers, competitors, volunteers, rodeo and equestrian stars was the top priority.
“The mud might have arrived early in Julia Creek, but the dust will still fly!” exclaims the Dirt n Dust President, Kalan Lococo. “While the dates may have shifted slightly, one thing hasn’t changed for sure, Julia Creek is ready to welcome visitors back with open arms, big skies and the same legendary outback hospitality that has made Dirt n Dust an icon for three decades.”
The full festival program will roll over to the new May dates, including crowd favourites including the DirtnDust Rodeo, South 32 Adventure Run, Multicom Resources 110th Anniversary Artesian Express Horse Races at the Julia Creek Turf Club, Australia’s Best Butt Competition and live concerts under the stars, where you can run, ride, race and rock it!
All existing tickets will remain valid for the new festival dates of May 29–30, 2026. Ticket holders will receive further information including refund options for those unable to attend the rescheduled event.
“So hold onto your hats… the mud will dry, the dust will rise, and Julia Creek will be ready to celebrate 30 years of Dirt, Dust and Determination this May,” says Festival President Kalan Lococo with a wink.
